Who’s this guy?

I’m Ross Jennings, I’m running to be one of your next councillors in Ward 3.

I get it, I’m running against candidates that you know, that have served this city twice as long as I’ve lived here (9 years).

But here’s the thing.

This election isn’t about me swaggering around reeling off my greatest hits, one by one.

Assuming that because I’ve done THIS, or THAT, worked HERE, and lived THERE, I know what’s best for you, your family, your neighbours over the next four years.

It isn’t about looking backwards at me, it’s about looking forwardswith you.

So, I will listen. I will learn.

Together we will look forward, because forwards starts with you.

THE BASICS

How long have you lived in Guelph?

1

I moved to Guelph in 2017 to join my, then, girlfriend, now wife.

I studied a Masters in Art History and Visual Culture at UoG.
I have worked in various places around the city, my wife and I owned our own Art Gallery in The Ward.

Since arriving in the early 1970s my extended family have dedicated most of there lives to build business’ and community throughout this city - since my own arrival I have been fortunate to learn, and build my own community here.

What connects you to Guelph?

Do you live in Ward 3?

3

Simple answer is no, honest answer is not yet.

We recently sold our house in Ward 2 with intentions of moving to Ward 3.

Many viewings later the search continues…

Its a great question, and, given my whole thing is built on knowing you and not me its a tough one to answer.

I believe that municipal politics has never been more important, more impactful, and more essential to help navigate the period of uncertainity that we are living through.

We are at an inflection point.

Local government can no longer function as the caretaker or gatekeeper but must engage with our community, to be the catalyst to inspire agency, allowing the people to take action and enact change.

Its a time to get serious, to be bold, to be ambitious. ‍ ‍

And that’s what I am.

Look, my story is complex, but, frankly, very Canadian.

I’m an immigrant to this country.

My experience has been shaped by 1st and 2nd generation Canadian’s.

I’ve worked for my family, I’ve worked for myself, I’ve worked with you.

I’ve explored the depths of addiction and risen up to maintain 11 years of sobriety.

I know what its like to raise a young family in the face of ever rising costs.

I know what its like to feel let down after working so hard to get ahead in education and work experience.

I know what its like to feel like the world is against you.

But I also know what it takes to turn that around, to find it within yourself to give everything one more chance.

To be relentless in challenging yourself, listening, learning, innovating.

To not simply accept what is, but to find a way to what it could be.

Its time to be bold, to be innovative, to accept where we and look forward to where we want to be.

My first challenge?

Well that’s simple, that’s gaining your trust to believe that we can do this together. ‍ ‍
